What an all-weather tire is for.
An all-weather tire carries the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol, the same severe-snow rating a winter tire has, but it is built to stay on the vehicle in summer too.
That means no seasonal changeover and no second set to store. It suits drivers who mostly stay in town and on the main highways, and anyone who does not want to think about tires twice a year.
The trade-offs are honest ones: an all-weather tire does not grip glare ice as well as a dedicated winter tire, and it wears faster in summer heat than a plain all-season. If you drive the passes every week in January, look at a winter tire.
